1. What information do we collect?

Information you provide directly

The application does not require user registration and does not request or require users to provide personal contact information, such as name or email address, in order to use its functionality.

In-app purchases

In-app purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store payment card information.

Apple may provide us with limited transaction metadata (such as transaction identifiers and product identifiers) to validate purchases and provide entitlements.

Location and device permissions

The app may request access to location services only when you actively use map features that need your current position. Precise location is processed locally on your device for that feature and is not stored on our servers.

You can grant or revoke permissions at any time in your iOS device settings.

Automatically collected information

When you use the app, we and our service providers may process limited technical information, including:

  • device and application characteristics (for example, device model, operating system/version, app version, and device/app identifiers)
  • application environment information (such as network/provider context where relevant)
  • usage data and interactions with the application
  • crash and diagnostic information
  • Internet Protocol (IP) address and approximate region inferred from IP (for analytics and reliability purposes)

This information is used to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the app.

Our mobile application may use Firebase Performance Monitoring to collect performance-related technical data, such as app start time, screen rendering data, network request timing, and custom code trace data, in order to monitor and improve application performance.

Application integrity verification

We may use Apple App Attest and Firebase App Check to help verify that requests to our services come from legitimate instances of the app. These mechanisms may process attestation signals and security tokens for abuse prevention and security.

Third-party services used by the app

The app uses selected third-party providers for infrastructure, purchases, analytics, diagnostics, integrity verification, and configuration. See Section 4 for details.

2. How do we process your information?

We process limited personal information to:

  • operate, deliver, and secure the app
  • validate in-app purchases and provide entitlements
  • analyze usage and improve app performance and reliability
  • diagnose crashes and technical issues
  • prevent abuse and fraud

We apply data minimization and process only information needed for these purposes.

3. What legal bases do we rely on to process your personal information?

If you are located in the EU or UK, we rely on the following legal bases under GDPR/UK GDPR:

  • Consent. Where required, we process your information based on your consent. You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting us.
  • Legitimate Interests. We process limited technical information where necessary for app security, fraud prevention, diagnostics, and service improvement, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Legal Obligations. We may process information when necessary to comply with applicable laws and regulatory obligations.

4. When and with whom do we share your personal information?

We share limited personal information with service providers that support app operations. These providers are authorized to process data only as needed to provide their services.

The app uses the following third-party service providers that may process limited personal information on our behalf or in connection with app functionality:

  • Apple In-App Purchases — billing, payment processing, and purchase entitlement validation via the App Store
  • Firebase Analytics — app usage analytics
  • Firebase Crashlytics — crash reporting and diagnostics
  • Firebase App Check — app integrity and abuse prevention, including use of Apple App Attest where applicable
  • Firebase Remote Config — app configuration, staged rollout, and feature delivery
  • Firebase Performance Monitoring — application performance monitoring and diagnostics

Relevant third-party privacy information:

We may also disclose personal information in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of all or part of our business.

5. Do we use analytics, diagnostics, and performance monitoring technologies?

Our mobile application uses certain third-party tools provided by Google LLC through Firebase, including Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, Firebase App Check, Firebase Remote Config, and Firebase Performance Monitoring.

These services may process limited technical information from your device and application, such as device and application identifiers, operating system and app version information, app interaction events, crash and diagnostic information, app start and screen rendering performance data, network request performance data, and Internet Protocol (IP) address or similar technical signals.

We use these services to understand how the application is used, diagnose errors, monitor and improve stability and performance, protect the integrity of the application, support configuration and feature delivery, and improve the overall user experience.

These services are not used for advertising, targeted marketing, or cross-app tracking.

You can use the analytics controls available in the app settings to limit analytics data collection on your device.

6. Is your information transferred internationally?

We and our service providers may process and store information in the United States and other countries.

If you access the app from outside those locations, your information may be transferred to countries with different data protection laws than your country.

Where required, we implement appropriate safeguards for international transfers, including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (or equivalent lawful mechanisms).

7. How long do we keep your information?

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this Privacy Notice, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

Technical, analytics, and diagnostic information is retained only for the period needed for security, troubleshooting, and service improvement.

When we no longer need the information, we delete or anonymize it, or securely isolate it until deletion is possible.

8. How do we keep your information safe?

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information.

No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. What are your privacy rights?

Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable data protection laws, including rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to certain processing, and request portability of personal information.

To exercise your rights, contact us at info@japanlikealocal.com.

If you are located in the EEA/UK/Switzerland, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. Controls for do-not-track features

Because this is a mobile application, there is no universally adopted Do-Not-Track signal standard applicable to the app at this time.

11. Do United States residents have specific privacy rights?

If you are a resident of certain US states, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, and a copy of personal information, and to appeal certain decisions related to privacy requests, subject to applicable law.
